Muscat, Oman — Masheed Engineering and Contracting (MEC) proudly announces the successful completion of construction works for Muscat Square, a prominent mixed-use commercial development in Muscat that is set to become a vibrant retail and lifestyle destination serving the surrounding community.
Awarded in March 2023 and officially launched in May 2023, the project reflects MEC’s strong capabilities in construction management, engineering execution, and on-site coordination. Despite the complexity of the project and challenges related to regulatory approvals and coordination with multiple authorities, MEC successfully delivered the project with high construction quality while maintaining the project schedule.
Built on a total plot area of 9,852 square meters, Muscat Square features a total built-up area of 15,964 square meters, designed to accommodate a diverse range of commercial and recreational facilities. The development includes a hypermarket, retail outlets, anchor tenant spaces, gym facilities, and food court areas, creating a comprehensive destination that integrates shopping, leisure, and community services.
Throughout the project lifecycle, Masheed Engineering and Contracting demonstrated exceptional performance in managing complex construction activities, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The construction scope involved extensive structural works, architectural finishing, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC installations, as well as external infrastructure works.
Significant progress was achieved across all construction phases. Major works—including wall finishes, plastering, tiling, and HVAC installations—were completed across the majority of the building areas. Interior works for specialized facilities such as the gym and bakery reached the final stages of completion, while external works including backfilling and municipality road connections were successfully finalized. The project has also secured the Civil Defense provisional certificate, with final utility connections currently underway as part of the handover process.
The development provides 226 parking spaces, exceeding the regulatory requirement of 187 spaces, ensuring convenient access for visitors and tenants. The ground floor hosts a 3,000-square-meter hypermarket, alongside 25 retail shops and anchor tenant units, while the first floor accommodates dedicated gym facilities for both men and women.
With a total project value of approximately OMR 4.1 million, Muscat Square highlights MEC’s commitment to delivering high-quality developments that meet both technical and commercial objectives. Through meticulous planning, efficient resource management, and close collaboration with consultants and authorities, the project team successfully overcame operational challenges while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
